Michael L. Budde is professor of Catholic Studies and Political Science at DePaul University, where he has served previously as chair of the department of Political Science and director of the Center for Church-State Studies. Budde’s areas of research focus on interactions between ecclesiology, political economy, and culture.
Among Budde’s books are the forthcoming The Borders of Baptism: Identities, Allegiances and the Church (Cascade Publishing, 2011) and the co-edited Witness of the Body: The Past, Present and Future of Christian Martyrdom (Eerdmans Publishing, 2011). He has also written The Two Churches: Catholicism and Capitalism in the World System (Duke University Press, 1992); The (Magic) Kingdom of God: Christianity and Global Culture Industries (Westview Press, 1997); and Christianity Incorporated (Brazos Press, 2002). He has also edited several volumes and published in scholarly journals including Studies in Christian Ethics, Sociology of Religion, and World Policy Journal.
