Walter Andreas Euler did his undergraduate studies in Catholic theology at the University of Passau (Germany) and the University of Freiburg (Germany). He received his MA in Catholic Theology in 1986 from the University of Passau and his PhD in 1990 from the University of Freiburg. From 1990 to 1992, he did postdoctoral work at the University of Freiburg and the University of Florence (Italy) through a grant from the Deutschen Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research Foundation).

In April 1992, he accepted the position of university lecturer of Cusanus Research at the Faculty of Theology in Trier, Germany, and also served a collaborator on the Cusanus edition of the Academy of Science and Arts in Heidelberg. Since December 1996, he has served as a lecturer in Religious Sciences at the Faculty of Theology in Trier, where, in October 2001, he also became a professor in Fundamental Theology and Ecumenical Theology. In April 2007, he became director of the Institute of Cusanus Research in Trier. Addtionally, he has served as a member of the German Cusanus Society’s Scientific Advisory Board and became its chairman in October 2008.
