Michael E. Lee, PhD, is associate professor of systematic theology in Fordham University’s Department of Theology and Institute for Latin American and Latino Studies, where he teaches courses in liberation theology, Christology, and spirituality. The son of Puerto Rican parents, Dr. Lee brings years of experience in practical ministry to his current academic work.
Dr. Lee’s recent publications include an article in the Jesuit journal Theological Studies entitled, “Galilean Jesus Revisited: Mestizaje, Anti-Judaism, and the Dynamics of Exclusion,” and his book, Bearing the Weight of Salvation, that examines the theology of the Salvadoran Jesuit martyr, Ignacio Ellacuría. It won Princeton Theological Seminary’s Hispanic Theological Initiative 2010 Book Prize.
Currently, he is translating and editing a collection of essays by Ignacio Ellacuría and researching a book on the history of liberation theology in El Salvador.
Dr. Lee serves on the board of directors for both the Catholic Theological Society of America (CTSA) and the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians of the United States (ACHTUS). He lives in the Bronx, New York, with his wife, Natalia, and two sons, William and Benjamin.
